I’ve done something like that before, but with aluminum fascia and a VW Golf ...

I mean those would fit even worse in standard pickup. You’d need some sort of rack installed. And the minivan could do just as well if it had been optioned with a sunroof.

Bed closed, pad on roof with a strap holding them into the bed. Don’t drive into any parking garages or under any low clearance overpasses. Even having them secured and hanging out the bed with flags would be better than that.

Having steel pipes pass through the passenger compartment without being properly secured is just about the worst way to transport something.

Well if you can put a pad on the roof, just tie them down to the roof of the minivan.

I used to work in construction, driving a pickup with an 8' bed and a topper . Long loads weren’t so bad if strapped to the roof, overhanging the cab. But I always hated having to leave the tailgate open when transporting long sheets of drywall. Especially those damn 12- and 14-footers!
